Diving and inshore fishing are best in the dry season from May to November. June to September in particular has little rainfall and calm seas, with the best visibility of 25-30 m and a comfortable water temperature of 27-29°C. From July to September, encounters with big creatures such as manta rays and sharks increase, and from October to December there is a chance to meet schools of hammerheads and large migratory fish. In the rainy season (November to April) the seas are rough and visibility drops, but there are fewer tourists.

About 4.5 hours from Kimbe, based at a lodge next to Baia village, you fish several surrounding rivers for Papuan bass (black bass). This is one of the world's premier bass fisheries with records over 50 lb, and stays of 4-6 nights are the norm. The surrounding open ocean also offers blue-water tropical species, and the operation has been jointly run with the local village for over 20 years.

A tropical maritime climate, hot and humid year-round. Seasonal temperature variation is very small (around 29°C in the daytime). November to April is the rainy season (monsoon) with heavy rainfall and somewhat rough seas, while May to October is the dry season with continuing clear skies, calm seas and good visibility.
