Located about 13.5 km southeast of the city center, it serves as a fishing base for Pulau Weh (Sabang), Simeulue and the Banyak Islands. There are no direct flights from Japan; the usual way to reach BTJ is via Jakarta (CGK), Medan (KNO) or Kuala Lumpur (KUL). From the airport into the city you can use the airport bus (Damri/Trans Koetaradja), airport taxis, or Grab/Gojek.

GT/Tuna/Popping
For offshore fishing such as GT popping and trolling, the seasonal transitions between the eastern and western monsoons are considered prime, when migratory fish such as yellowfin and bigeye tuna gather in numbers. There is no true rainy season, but October to January (especially December) is prone to rain and the influence of the northeast monsoon. On the other hand, the peak of the western monsoon (June to September) brings strong winds and high waves that make offshore fishing difficult, though large tuna migrations occur. Around April to October, when sea conditions are relatively stable and visibility is good, is considered the suitable time to visit and fish.

Banda Aceh, at the northern tip of Sumatra, is the jumping-off point for GT expeditions reaching from Pulau Rondo and Pulau Weh (Sabang) out to Simeulue and the Banyak Islands. Pop topwater for GT, jig for dogtooth and ruby snapper, and drop deep for grouper. The season starts in September once seas settle, and yellowfin, wahoo and marlin also pass through.

A tropical rainforest climate near the equator, hot and humid year-round. The monthly average high is about 31 to 33 degrees C and the low about 22 to 24 degrees C, with little seasonal variation. There is no true dry season, but the influence of the northeast monsoon and tropical depressions brings the rainy season around October to January with increased rainfall. The wettest month is December, and the driest is around June.
