The best season for fishing is the dry season (May–October). There are many clear, calm days, and fishing in the offshore blue water (GT/giant trevally, Spanish mackerel, tuna, queenfish, etc.) becomes productive. Around mid-year (June–August) there is also a run of sailfish. In the wet season (around November–April), rough weather, swell and onshore winds make fishing trips difficult.

The main grounds are the Rowley Shoals, three coral atolls perched on the edge of the continental shelf about 168 nautical miles due west of Broome. Target GT, dogtooth, yellowfin, wahoo, sailfish, and coral trout on poppers, jigs, and trolling. Being remote open-ocean atolls, charter access is limited to a very short window centered on Oct-Nov, with multi-day liveaboards out of Broome the norm.

Broome is hot throughout the year, with two seasons: the dry season (May–October) and the wet season (November–April). The dry season is comfortable with clear skies and low humidity, while the wet season is hot and humid with the possibility of monsoons, squalls and cyclones.
