Local info: Malaysia's oldest reservoir, the "Mini Amazon"
Completed in 1930, Chenderoh is Malaysia's oldest man-made lake and is promoted by Perak's tourism board as the country's "mini Amazon"; it was also a filming location for the movie Anna and the King. Alongside peacock bass, toman and sebarau, the lake is unusual for its giant freshwater prawns (udang galah). Tanjung Harapan Chalet (operating since 1997, with its own jetty and boats) and the homestay and river-cruise operators at Kampung Beng arrange guides and boats. Some boat hire is per-jetty with no trade name (e.g. Jeti Durian Pipit: boat RM30, tackle RM20). Safety: TNB carries out dam-water releases and notice has at times been short — shore anglers should take care.
