Target fish & season

GT/Bottom fishing/Yellowfin tuna/Wahoo/Mahi-mahi/Marlin

Rain is frequent year-round with little clear dry season. If sea conditions matter, it's best to consult locally and pick a time when the swell settles. The latitude sees relatively few direct typhoon hits, but the surf season (Oct–Mar) brings north swell. Big fish and bottom fishing on untouched reefs can be targeted year-round.

How to fish here

A fringing reef of some of the Pacific's finest health encircles the island, with dogtooth tuna, barracuda, and sharks holding along the reef edge in this untouched field. Beyond casting the reef edge and bottom fishing for reef species, you troll offshore for yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and marlin. Fishing arrangements go through Kosrae Nautilus Resort.

Climate & what to wear source

Right on the equator (about 5°N), hot and humid with frequent rain all year. 30–32°C by day and 23–25°C at night, with water temperature stable around 28°C. No clear dry season and rain year-round.

If the sea gets rough source

In rough weather, move to the island's leeward (sheltered) side, or switch to inner-reef and bottom fishing. On days when boats can't go out, alternatives include the Lelu ruins, mangrove kayaking, waterfall hiking and visiting WWII Japanese bunkers.
