The main arena is the Ramganga River cutting through Jim Corbett National Park. This is an expedition for the world-renowned golden mahseer, fished in a gorge ringed by deep forest. There are two seasons: autumn, when the water clears after the monsoon (roughly Oct-Nov), and spring before the rains (Mar-Jun). Because the fish is threatened, everything is strictly catch-and-release, and only barbless single hooks are permitted. The big catfish goonch is also a target.
Rivers in the Himalayan foothills. The monsoon July–September brings high water and is unsuitable. Spring (April–June) and autumn (October) are best.
Fishing is difficult during monsoon high water and turbidity.
