On the equator (about 1.9N), climate and fishing conditions change little through the year, so fishing is possible year-round. Bonefish, GT, and triggerfish can be targeted all year, but Mar-May and Sep-Nov are considered especially favorable.

One of the world's largest coral atolls, part of Kiribati, this is a saltwater fly-fishing mecca where you wade vast flats. The headline target, bonefish, average around 3 lb with 5-7 lb fish in the mix, and they're reliable year-round. Target GT around the big spring tides of the new and full moon, while bonefish are easiest to read on the calmer mid-tide swings. Triggerfish and milkfish are also on the menu.

Hot and humid year-round, with temperatures nearly constant at highs of 29-31C / lows of 24-25C. Nov-Apr sees more rain, while May-Oct brings southeast trade winds and a drier, more comfortable period. Aug-Dec is the dry season with the least rainfall.
On the equator the weather is relatively stable, but during the rainy period (Nov-Apr) squalls are more likely. In strong winds you can often keep fishing on the flats deep in the lagoon, and guides adjust spots according to wind direction.
