Where it is & getting there

Getting there (from the nearest int'l airport) source

The gateway is Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). Head north from the airport or KL city to the west coast of the Malay Peninsula, to the estuary and mangrove town of Kuala Selangor, and further north to Sekinchan, a town of paddy fields and fishing ports. There is no direct rail connection, so a car, transfer, or taxi is the norm. Highway tolls require a Touch'n Go card or RFID.

Target fish & season

Prawn(udang galah)/Barramundi/Mangrove jack

For sea and estuary fishing, the west coast is relatively calm and easier to target during the northeast monsoon period (November to March). The popular threadfin (Senangin/fourfinger threadfin) is generally said to be best from March to August. In estuaries and mangroves, udang galah (giant freshwater prawn) and the like can be enjoyed year-round.

How to fish here

In the brackish reaches of the Sungai Selangor, the specialty is udang galah (giant freshwater prawn). Boats depart from jetties like Pasir Penambang, and the murky rainy season is considered prime. In the estuary, barramundi (siakap) and mangrove jack take lures and live bait, best worked at dawn on the rising tide.
