Target fish & season

GT/Dogtooth tuna/Tuna/Grouper/Snapper

GT can be targeted year-round, but the prime time for serious fishing including dogtooth tuna is roughly November-April. GT, bluefin trevally, yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna, ruby snapper, amberjack, wahoo, grouper, and more can be targeted. As the Komodo area has some of the world's strongest tidal currents, it is important to set a schedule that avoids the tides (the raging currents of spring tides).

How to fish here

A world-class GT and dogtooth fishery worked out of Labuan Bajo on Flores, ranging around Komodo National Park. Beyond GT, the grounds are thick with yellowfin, wahoo, grouper, and snapper. With some of the strongest tidal currents on earth, timing your runs to the tides is the golden rule. The calm dry season of Jun-Oct is the easiest to plan around, and yellowfin and dogtooth generally pick up from summer onward.
