The gateway is Kochi (COK) in Kerala, India, from where it is about 1 hour 30 minutes by domestic flight, or about 14-18 hours by passenger ship from Kochi Port. An entry permit is mandatory to enter Lakshadweep; under the new rules effective 29 April 2026, a local sponsor and Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) are no longer required, simplifying the procedure. It is safest to book flights and accommodation after obtaining the permit.

The best season for fishing and diving is roughly October to April (sometimes extending into May). During this period the Arabian Sea is calm with light winds, underwater visibility is 20-40 m, and the water temperature is a favorable 27-30°C. During the southwest monsoon (June-September), the sea is rough, visibility drops, and ferry services are restricted, so it is best avoided.
