Where it is & getting there

Getting there (from the nearest int'l airport) source

The gateway is Lombok International Airport (LOP, in Praya, southern Lombok). Sekotong (West Lombok) is about 1 to 1 hour 45 minutes away by road. The Gili Islands and Senggigi are reached by road plus boat. There are no direct flights from Japan, so connecting via Bali (DPS), Jakarta, Singapore, etc. is common.

Target fish & season

GT/Dogtooth tuna/Tuna/Snapper/Grouper

The best time for GT and dogtooth tuna is the dry season from May to November (especially May to September). In the dry season, GT run well on the leeward reefs of Sekotong (West Lombok). Tuna and mahi-mahi also peak from May to September. GT popping can be targeted year-round depending on the tides, but the best results come from early morning to noon in the dry season when sea conditions are stable.

How to fish here

Sekotong in West Lombok is the island's premier GT hub, an archipelago of islands and complex currents with plenty of GT ambush spots and low fishing pressure. Popping works well on the reefs around Gili Gede, producing 10-20kg GT plus dogtooth, amberjack and big grouper. Best is the dry season, May-Nov.
