The most common way to reach Can Tho, the hub city of the Mekong Delta, is by road from Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), taking about 3.5 to 4 hours. Long-distance buses (FUTA/Phuong Trang, etc.) depart from the Mien Tay bus terminal in the western part of the city at intervals of 30 to 60 minutes, with fares of about USD 4 to 10. A chartered car can take you directly from your hotel in about 2.5 to 3 hours. If you are in a hurry, domestic flights to Can Tho Airport (VCA) are also available. The best season for freshwater fishing in the Mekong Delta in general is considered to be October to April (mainly the dry season), when the weather is stable and fish are more active. On the other hand, snakehead (giant snakehead) moves close to the banks during the rainy season and high-water period (around May to October) and becomes aggressive and easier to catch, so this period is a good opportunity when targeting snakehead. Catfish and snakehead are also worth targeting in the dry season from November to February. Overall, the dry season is recommended for comfort, and the rainy season and high-water period are recommended for the numbers and aggressiveness of snakehead.

Toman (snakehead) lurking in the canals and rice paddies of the Mekong Delta is the headline lure target. Strongly piscivorous, they respond well to frogs, topwater, and soft lures, with the bite concentrated at dawn and dusk. For the big ones, the standard is baitcasting with heavy line. Can Tho has a tropical monsoon climate that is hot and humid throughout the year. The dry season is December to April (mostly sunny and comfortable), and the rainy season is May to November (frequent squalls, with September to October being the wettest). The annual average temperature is about 27 to 28 degrees C, so there is almost no concern about cold. Around September to November is the period of rising water from upstream, when water levels rise. For clothing, short sleeves and breathable clothing are the basics year-round; in the rainy season a folding umbrella or rainwear and protection against strong sunlight (hat, sunscreen) are essential.
