Target fish & season

GT/Jigging/grouper (kerapu)

For offshore targets such as GT and jigging, after the northeast monsoon ends is the time to aim for. April to October, when the sea calms (queenfish in particular from February to October, with the best window around April to July), is the suitable period. During the northeast monsoon from November to February, strong winds and swells often make boats unable to depart and island crossings suspended.

How to fish here

The gateway to Tioman Island and Sedili on Johor's east coast. From kelong (stilted fishing platforms) and inshore charters you can enjoy bottom fishing and jigging for trevally and grouper. The deep water east of Tioman holds mahi-mahi, sailfish and wahoo on the FADs. High-speed jigging for Spanish mackerel runs roughly May-Aug, while the northeast monsoon of Nov-Feb brings more strong wind and cancellations.
