Target fish & season

River/ultralight

The best fishing season is the dry season around April to September (especially May to July). The sea is relatively calm and even small boats can head offshore easily, and in Melanau tradition the Kaul Festival (Pesta Kaul) marks the end of the northeast monsoon and the start of the fishing season. On the other hand, during the northeast monsoon from November to February, the sea becomes rough and fishing trips are difficult.
