From the airport to the city and river mouth it is about 15 minutes by car. You can also enter overland via Hat Yai, or from Sungai Kolok on the Malaysian border (with Kota Bharu, Malaysia on the opposite bank).

Barramundi/Grouper/Snapper
The best season is February to April when there is little rain (February is the driest). The northeast monsoon period of October to January (especially November to December) brings heavy rain and rough seas, making it unsuitable for fishing and boat trips. Sea fishing on the Gulf of Thailand side is generally stable from February to September. At the river mouth and nearshore you can target barracuda, queenfish, cobia, trevally, snapper, grouper and more.

Where the Bang Nara River empties into the Gulf of Thailand sits the town of Narathiwat. With brackish water and mangroves spreading out, it's a setting for barramundi that favor estuaries and brackish zones, plus grouper and snapper holding on structure. Along the coast line the brightly painted wooden "kolae" fishing boats, a fishing-village culture that carries on across to Malaysia's Kelantan side. It's also close to Sungai Kolok on the Malaysian border.

A tropical climate with high rainfall, about 2,100 mm per year. Rain concentrates during the northeast monsoon from October to January (especially November to December), with November being the wettest. February to April is relatively dry and comfortable. It is hot and humid year-round.
