Target fish & season

Snakehead (toman)/Kerandang/Wallago (tapah)/Haruan (snakehead)

For freshwater giant snakehead (toman), water level is key. The practical fishing season is roughly the dry season Jun–Sep (Aug the driest). The long rainy season from Oct–May (peaking Nov–Dec) brings high, muddy water and difficult access.

How to fish here

The Sebangau River runs through peat swamp, a mecca for toman (giant snakehead), the mightiest of freshwater predators. Various channa such as kerandang and haruan share the water, and casting is considered the most exciting way to fish it. Split the surface with topwaters like poppers, stickbaits, and buzzbaits. Local casters in Palangkaraya are the source for intel.
