To the fishing base of Pulau Aman, it's about 10 minutes by boat from the Batu Musang jetty in Batu Kawan (Seberang Perai). From KL/Singapore etc., the basic route is a direct flight to PEN.

Offshore fishing on the west coast (Strait of Malacca/Andaman Sea side) is possible year-round, but during the northeast monsoon period (November-March) the west coast sea is relatively calm, making it a good chance to target trevally/snapper/grouper, etc. Barramundi can be targeted at river mouths and along the coast, and it is effective to match the dawn/dusk twilight and the movement of the tides. The area around Pulau Aman is popular with anglers as a fishing village.

The base is Pulau Aman, a small island lying off Bukit Tambun on the mainland across from Penang. Known for its signature mee udang, the surrounding estuaries hold udang galah (giant freshwater prawn) and barramundi. Prawns come into their own in the dry season; as low water drops the river level, schools pack in tight along the banks and numbers come easy. The ferry from Bukit Tambun runs about 30 minutes, and offshore trips also depart from Batu Uban and other points on Penang Island.
