The gateway is the Mersing Jetty, from which it is about 2.5-4 hours by boat (varying with sea conditions). Mersing is reached by car from Kuala Lumpur (KL) or Johor Bahru (JB). During the northeast monsoon (November-February) the sea is rough and the island is closed.

The open-island season for fishing and diving is roughly March to October. April-June, when the sea is calm and visibility is high, and July-August are especially the best. From November to February (the northeast monsoon), strong winds and high waves from the South China Sea make the sea rough and the island is closed.
