The gateway to Qingdao is Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO), located about 39 km northwest of the city center. International routes such as Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore and Frankfurt operate here, and with a “zero-transfer” design that integrates Metro Line 8 and a high-speed rail station directly beneath the terminal, you can reach the city and port areas in a short time.
| From | Route | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tokyo (Narita/Haneda) | Direct flight to Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO) | About 3 hours | From TAO to the city, take Metro Line 8 then transfer to Line 1/3, or a taxi takes about 40–50 min (¥100–120 as a guide). |
| Seoul (Incheon) | Direct flight to TAO | About 1.5 hours | With many flights from Korea, it is convenient as a transit hub. Travel from the airport to the city center and coastal ports by metro/taxi. |
| Major mainland Chinese cities (Beijing, Shanghai, etc.) | Domestic flight or high-speed rail toward TAO/Qingdao Station | About 1–2 hours by air | TAO also has many domestic flights. The high-speed rail directly beneath the terminal connects to the city and nearby cities. |
| TAO (airport) → Qingdao city/port | Metro Line 8 to Qingdao North Station → transfer to Line 1/3, or taxi | About 37 min by metro to Qingdao North Station | To the coastal ports that serve as boarding bases for inshore fishing, a city transfer or taxi is convenient. |

Yellowtail amberjack/Amberjack/metal jigJigging
The best season for inshore fishing around Qingdao (inshore/bottom fish/largehead hairtail/flounder, etc.) is autumn. Local sources say late autumn (roughly the September–November autumn run season) is the year’s best sea-fishing season, when Spanish mackerel and other migratory fish move north along the coast and become targets. Early spring (mid-March to mid-May) is also a good spring window, with the period around the Qingming Festival being prime for sea bass. Flounder (left-eye flounder/righteye flounder) is caught in large numbers along the coast such as the eastern tip of Xuejiadao in autumn.
