How to fish here

Fly fishing for both rainbow and brown trout on Lake Rotorua and its feeder rivers (such as the Ngongotaha). The lake is open year-round; rainbows average around 1.5 kg and browns around 2.5 kg, and trophies over 10 lb (about 4.5 kg) are not uncommon. Autumn into early winter (April-May), when the spawning run builds, is a prime window for big fish moving up from the lake, and in summer heli access to backcountry streams is popular too.
