About an hour south of Colombo, the main arena is the tidal mangrove channels of Bolgoda Lake. You target wild golden barramundi and mangrove jack holding in the brackish water, casting light tackle and fly. The style centers on pitching lures against snags and structure, and it also extends to nearshore game fishing from the lake.

Tropical monsoon climate. The rainy seasons are split between the southwest monsoon (roughly May–Sep) and the northeast monsoon (roughly Dec–Feb), but lake fishing is possible year-round.
Even in rough weather, the inner brackish lake is relatively fishable. In strong winds or heavy rain, head to the inner reaches of the bay.
