The standard route is to travel overland through Jerantut in Pahang state to the village of Kuala Tahan, from where you cross into the park by ferry boat. A scenic route, in which you go up the Tembeling River by boat for about 2.5 to 3 hours from the Kuala Tembeling Jetty along the way, is also popular. It serves as the base for jungle freshwater fishing (Kelah/Sebarau) throughout the Sg Tahan/Tembeling River area.

Mahseer/carp/Mountain stream（Sg Sepia/Tembeling）
The best season for jungle freshwater fishing (Kelah/mahseer, Sebarau) is the dry season of February to September, with the low-rainfall periods of February to April and July to August being especially suitable. The Tembeling River system has its clearest water during this dry season. Kelah become easier to target in highly transparent rapids where the water level drops. Fishing is by permit (entry permit, fishing permit, and boat inspection required) at Sg Tahan (downstream of Lata Berkoh), Sg Keniam, and other areas. The rainy season (centered on November to January) worsens conditions with rising and muddy water, and there is a risk of part of the park closing.

A tropical rainforest climate (Tropical Wet) with annual rainfall of about 2400 mm. Temperatures are high and humid year-round, around 29 to 33°C. The rainy season, centered on November to January, brings rising water levels, muddy rivers, and at times the closure of part of the park. The period with relatively little rain and the clearest rivers is February to March.
