King Bank and Middlesex Bank, with their strong currents and abundant bait, produce kingfish averaging 15-25 kg and up to the 30 kg class, plus hapuka and bass on mechanical jigging and live baits. Recommended 5-7 days, with the 5-day trip the most popular.

Details (access, climate, lodging & more)

Climate & what to wear

As far-northern open ocean, sea conditions change greatly. Summers are mild but there is a high risk of open-ocean swell and strong winds (a capsizing accident has occurred in the past). No land-based climate data exists for the Three Kings location, so figures are omitted.

If the sea gets rough source

Because it involves open-ocean voyaging, bad weather is especially dangerous. As a rule, avoid forcing departures and adjust the schedule according to sea conditions.
