By light aircraft it takes as little as 20-30 minutes; the ferry to Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island takes about 2.5 hours. As the entire area is Aboriginal-owned land, an entry permit is required (arranged by the operator when joining a tour. Only the cultural precinct of Wurrumiyanga requires no permit for ferry passengers).

For barramundi, the run-off (March-May) and the build-up (October-December) are considered the best seasons, when catches are easiest in estuaries and tidal rivers. The Dry season (May-September) also offers clear water and stable, favorable conditions; in addition to barramundi you can target GT (giant trevally) and golden trevally by hitting blue water and bait balls. GT and estuary/blue-water fishing center on the Dry season when the weather is stable. The Wet season (November-April) brings high temperatures and heavy rain, making fishing conditions difficult.
