Yeosu is a port town in Jeollanam-do on South Korea's southern coast. The gateway is Yeosu Airport (RSU, about 9 km from the city center, roughly 20 minutes by taxi). From Seoul, the KTX Jeolla Line directly connects Yongsan Station and Yeosu EXPO Station, and there are air routes as well. For Chuja Island, the standard approach is to take a ferry from Yeosu or Jeju.

Target fish & season

Yellowtail amberjack/Hairtail/Boat jigging

Amberjack (yellowtail and yellowtail amberjack types) generally peak in spring (March-May) and autumn (roughly August-November, peaking in autumn); yellowtail amberjack favor warm water and are harder to target in winter. Rockfish are generally best in the cool-water period from autumn to spring (winter being the high season). Off Yeosu, squid (squid metal jigging) has a track record in summer (good catch reports in June). No definitive official seasonal data specific to Yeosu could be confirmed; the above is a guideline based on the general seasons for amberjack and rockfish.

Details (access, climate, lodging & more)

Climate & what to wear source

Yeosu has a humid subtropical climate with distinct seasons. Summer (June-August) is hot and humid with concentrated rainy-season rainfall, while winter (December-February) is dry and cold, with mornings and evenings sometimes dropping below freezing. Annual precipitation is about 1,500 mm. The easiest times for sightseeing and activities are spring (April-May) and autumn (October). The coast is prone to wind, which lowers the perceived temperature, so an extra layer of outerwear is reassuring.
